ChipInHead is the blog of Suzanne Forbes, a queer, disabled, crowdfunded documentary artist.

You can see thousands of my Creative Commons-licensed live drawings here.

I grew up in NYC, lived in the Bay Area for 18 years, and immigrated to Berlin in 2015. I was trained as an artist at the Art Students League, Parsons, The School of Visual Arts and the Minneapolis College of Art & Design.

When I was young I was a courtroom artist for CBS and CNN and a penciller for DC Comics on Star Trek.

In my late 30s, I found my praxis of being a live drawing chronicler of alternative culture in the Bay Area. I began using my drawings to record events like Folsom St Fair, the Edwardian Ball, and queer porn shoots at Kink.

Now I make documentary art of queer culture in Berlin, drawing from live events (or live-streams, the last two years!) like drag shows, fetish balls and Berlin Burlesque Week.

The blog header photo is a detail from a series of portrait photographs taken of me in my home by Mirella Frangella.

Why is your blog called Chipinhead?

*This blog contains some republished content from my’s blog at a Bay Area website company, where I spent two years as the marketing manager, and some of it is pretty San-Francisco-marketing-y. You have been warned.

Also, if you’re looking for Rachel Ketchum, blonde New York graffiti artist who went to Stuyvesant in 1980, you’ve found her.

I really appreciated (because liked isn’t the correct word) your post on depression. Mine has never been that severe, more physical symptoms than mental, but it’s a good reminder that it’s a real illness. People who don’t have it have a hard time understanding that it’s just as debilitating as, for instance, lupus (or other completely physical illnesses).

    Hey,

You drew me and my two friends on the train in Berlin about a week ago. Two of us had skateboards. I’m wondering if we could get a copy of it. We looked on your website but couldn’t find it.

    Thank you!

Hey Suzanne, you know me from Folsom Europe Berlin 2017, as you were painting my Puppy-Brother and me, Smarty. That you take care of us makes me very proud, so I want to know when I can see our painting, in wich style ever. If it’s possible that we got an information of the actual status of yout painting?

If it is possible, I would like to buy your drawing.

I would be glad to hear from you. Many greetings from me, Smarty.

Greetings from a proud pupp. 😉
